Microcurrent Therapy

Microcurrent Electrical Therapy (MET) uses a very low level of current in a proprietary bipolar waveform to affect the electrical and chemical activity of certain cells in the nervous system. MET is delivered via adhesive pads or probes to painful areas on the body. This treatment may be enhanced by using the probes to treat specific acupuncture points. One advantage of this therapy over traditional acupuncture is the reduced treatment time. Whereas acupuncture needles are generally retained in animals for a period of 15-20 minutes, MET at each point typically lasts only 10-20 seconds.

The Alpha-Stim® is a prescription medical device which may be used for MET as well as cranial electrical stimulation (CES) applied through ear clips. CES has been shown to promote an electrical activity pattern in the brain known as an alpha state. Alpha brain waves are associated with feelings of calmness, relaxation and increased mental focus. CES has been found to be useful in the treatment of anxiety, insomnia and depression. Because the Alpha-stim® is small and fairly easy to use, these devices may be leased or purchased after an initial evaluation and treatment recommendations, to be used in the comfort of your home.
